Our Region

Location & History

The White Horse Plains is located immediately west of the city of Winnipeg. Winnipeg is the capital city of the Canadian province of Manitoba, also known as the "Keystone Province" because of its central location. The region is named after a local aboriginal legend about inter-tribal courtship, a white horse and a tragic ending.

Member Municipalities

The region consists of four local municipal government districts, known as rural municipalities:

• Rural Municipality of Cartier
• Rural Municipality of Headingley
• Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie
• Rural Municipality of St. François Xavier
